26 linear arrays of JBL VTX A12 were installed at the Coliseum's Canadian casino

While other casinos offer regular entertainment, The Colosseum Caesars Windsor Hotel & Casino takes live shows to a new level. The 5000-seat club offers a variety of leisure activities - from performances by top artists on the charts, like Pitbull, Brian Adams and Blink 182, to comedic actors such as Trevor Noah. In the autumn of 2017, the Coliseum became the first site with permanently installed twenty-sixth linear arrays JBL VTX A12

The author of the Harman column talked with David Cyrenne, the production manager and audio engineers of the Colosseum, to learn more about the installation of the A12 array and how the Colosseum uses sound systems during the world-class artists show.

Why did the Coliseum choose JBL VTX A12?

Our concert hall corresponds to world standards, so we chose a recognized professional acoustics, which is both reliable and versatile. So far we have used JBL VerTec, which served us very, very well. That's why we again decided to turn to JBL - together with system integration, Line Calculator software and Performance Manager, we received a full package of equipment.

This was the first installation of the JBL VTX A12 array in the world, so I was a little afraid of surprises. I knew that we were improving the sound on the court, but I could not think that it was day and night compared to previous systems. Boxes of linear arrays were created from scratch. This is very high evidence of JBL, as the company decided and jumped into the R & D sphere to come up with an entirely new box from scratch. We are proud of our leadership in entertainment, and now we have world-class loudspeakers thanks to the VTX A12.

Casino - atypical place for performances of bands and artists. What is different about the Colosseum?

The casino entertainment model has always looked like milk in a supermarket. People play gambling and have fun, but this has never been the main engine of business. 5-10 years ago the business of the gaming business went worse, but we had a good music program in the Colosseum. We made profit in many ways. Instead of going to play at the table or at the slot machines, guests came to the show, which influenced the game side of our business. We were actually the first in the Caesar network, which launched this model, and I consider us to be innovators in this field.

What is your first impression of the A12 system?

What struck me the most was the even top. When I first listened to the system, I noted the width of the sound cover - as at 90o vertically. I listened to only 2 main systems, simultaneously sounded. The purity of the middle was also expressive and I noted the clarity that was not there until now. I was a little bit afraid of dual 12-inch drivers, since VerTech had dual 15-inch drivers and I did not want to miss a single punch. However, the A12 had the full power and punch that I needed, and the 12-inch drivers have a great musical match with them.

Could you tell us more about the various events and events that you are taking in the Colosseum?

Our program is very diverse. Since then we have installed A12, we played Alessia Cara, Huey Lewis, Jeff Dunham, Jethro Tull, Penn and Teller, Megadeth, Devo, Alabama and many others. We also try to put comedies on a monthly basis. In addition, we equipped the premises with sports grounds - from boxing to basketball. We have a complex system of seats, which allows us to equip the hall for conventions and other events. And JBL VTX A12 absolutely copes with all tasks, without problems.
